I don't just rate software because I like something or haven't used others, I do test it and compare completely before judging any software and ran this 3 times to be sure.
Is it still better than using Windows basic copy? By all means and would definitely recommend using it over that but there are far better out there.
I do personally find the speed an issue, especially as much copying as I do and large amounts, this makes a major over all difference, ESPECIALLY if I want to copy files for backing up someone's system and they need it yesterday.Īnother thing is, in order to get more options, you have to buy the pro version, others have plenty of options for FREE and have error checking and more than TeraCopy offers, that being said, I find no way to rate a software higher which has less features, even in the paid for version with others doing a better job and are completely free, not free versions. I tested 12 gigs of files in a folder on my Kingston SSD drive, compared to Windows basic copy, and 3 other file copy softwares and again, I was disappointed in TeraCopy.Īnd if that wasn't enough, Windows basic copy beat it with 3 min 20 sec. You can also quickly set as target any folder open in Explorer. It's been a while since I've used TeraCopy so I thought, eh, give it another chance and seeing the high reviews I just had to test it again. Shell integration: TeraCopy can completely replace the Explorer copy and move functions, enabling you to work with files as usual. Informative progress bar: a speed graph inside the progress bar visually indicates problematic and skipped files using different colors. You can also remove unnecessary files or folders to reduce the transfer time. Interactive file list: TeraCopy shows the failed file transfers and lets you fix the problem and recopy only the problem files. Error recovery: in a case of a copy error, TeraCopy will try to recover and, in the worse case scenario, will simply skip the file, not terminating the entire transfer.Ĭreate and verify checksum files: all popular formats are supported, including MD5, SHA, RIPEMD, Tiger, Whirpool and xxHash. This is done by comparing hashes of source and target files. It automatically switches between synchronous and asynchronous modes to improve the speed of file transfers.įile verification: TeraCopy can test files after copy to ensure they are identical. TeraCopy is a free utility designed to copy files faster and more secure. It's not great for novice users, but anyone with some experience will have no trouble finding their way around the interface, and it's a completely free utility. TeraCopy is an excellent option if you often need to copy or move files, especially in batches or when they're coming from multiple source locations. None of the features and buttons are explained clearly, and the Help document is mostly just descriptions with no context, so it would be tough for new users to get their bearings. Not for beginners: The interface and the Help file associated with this program are not very inviting to users without some experience. This is a definite step up over some similar programs that will abort copying an entire batch if there are a few files that can't be copied. Once that process is complete, it will show you which files couldn't be copied and why. Skipped errors: If the app is unable to copy certain files in a batch for some reason, it will just skip them and copy all of the files it can. To answer the original question, Teracopy is usually (but not always) significantly faster than copying with Windows Explorer. This will give you a real measurement of the copy speed. The files are copied almost instantly, and you'll soon see a readout of what was successfully copied and what was not. Take a large folder (or a really large file) and copy it using both methods and time how long it takes to actually copy the files to the external drive. The program is used for frequent file transfers, large file sizes, moving files from separate hard drives. Prosįast and efficient: When you add files to this program and initiate the copy process, you won't have to wait to get your results. TeraCopy is a program to copy and paste large files at a high speed. Regardless of what you need to transfer or why, this program has the tools to help you get it done. TeraCopy gives you a quick and efficient way to copy a file or files from one location to another with just a few clicks of the mouse.
